The 2010 Arsies: February 2, 2010

February 2, 2010

Today's matchup should have been straightforward, especially if you understand the politics of the Arsies. Oh sure, it's not unheard of to have a joke band like Austrian Death Machine make it into consideration; indeed, Dethklok also came back this year into the tournament play. However, once the heat turns up and it's time to get serious, the comedians typically fall by the wayside, resulting in some nice openminded props for the oddballs, but nothing to worry about. So, Austrian Death Machine going up against The Black Dahlia Murder in a quarterfinal should have been a no-questions-asked blowout. And it was: ADM's "Double Brutal" is simply a better musical effort, the catchier, heavier, and more enjoyable album than BDM's "Deflorate." They're both good, but "Double Brutal" is without a doubt more of a contender. Well done, Ahnolds!
