The 2010 Arsies: January 13, 2010

January 13, 2010

Today's battle was another tough one, pitting Converge against Russian Circles. Converge was an early favorite going into the match, but Russian Circles won the coin-toss, and they came out swingin'. "Geneva" is a solid and polished album, blending the cinematic qualities of Don Caballero with the darkness of GYBE. They were not going to go down without a fight... which is exactly what Converge brought. "Axe To Fall" countered with unabashed viciousness, start to finish. With repeated listens, both albums stand up strongly (and keep getting better). Ultimately, Converge proved to be the more compelling choice, but juuussst barely. Both albums are great, really. Well done, Converge!
